He's a playboy who thinks he can get any woman he wants with a smile and a wink of his eye. Everything is easy for him. Well...until he meets a woman who believes in romance and wants to be courted. Imagine that!

Dating in the Desert Sassy Saguaros Book 1 edition by Rebecca Rodarte Literature Fiction eBooks

I haven’t read romance novels on a frequent basis since high school, but this Sassy Saguaros series has rekindled my interest in the genre. Dating in the Desert reads like a fun, lighthearted Hallmark movie, but saucier and sassier (like Sex in the City)!

The heroine, Justine, is a romance writer living in Phoenix, AZ who hasn’t yet found her Prince Charming. She hasn’t had much luck with finding a man who knows how to be a gentleman, or even the basics of how to court and romance a woman. Unexpectedly, she meets Steve at the hotel where she is attending a romance writer’s conference and sparks fly from the moment they meet!

Steve is a likeable, charming and handsome guy but has fallen into the trap of being a slacker in the dating department. His assistant, Josie, amusingly reminds him the new woman he wants to date - Justine - is not like other women he’s dated! He will have to up his game if he wants to score with her. Fortunately, Steve is so intrigued by Justine that she inspires him to fulfill her dating fantasies – with limos, private boats, helicopters and hot air balloons! Justine expects Steve to be like other men she dated as well, but he surprises her, and that is the true charm of this lighthearted, romantic story.

Dating in the Desert is an addictive page turner! It can easily be read in one evening or afternoon. Because of the short chapters, I found myself eagerly moving on to the next chapter to find out what happens next!

Rebecca Rodarte has a knack for writing succinctly with just enough pertinent details for you to get to know the characters on multiple levels. Each character has a distinctive personality. I enjoyed reading Steve’s POV, as well as Justine’s, which are both included in alternating chapters. This approach reveals multiple personality traits and personal motives for each person so you can get a more complete picture of who they are - yes sometimes the guy screws up royally, but he still has a heart, and the woman gets annoyed with him - but she has a heart too.

The other two female characters, Josie and Joan, were a hoot! I can see why this series is titled Sassy Saguaros!

Rebecca Rodarte is a witty, smart writer. The dialogue is lighthearted and sassy, but there are also a few serious moments and a sweet tenderness between Steve and Justine as their feelings for each other begin to grow. What I enjoyed most about Dating in the Desert is that it is funny, charming and romantic. It might even be a good guidebook for men on how to date like a gentleman! Dating in the Desert is an entertaining twist on the role of men and women in the modern dating world.

Dating in the Desert Sassy Saguaros Book 1 edition by Rebecca Rodarte Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Dating in the Desert is a quick enjoyable read. This novella brings to life the woes of the dating world with a strong likable character who knows what she does and doesn't want and stands her ground. Set in sunny Arizona, the adventurous dates are fun and exciting and allow you to escape with them. Looking forward to another book!
I'm so disappointed - not in the book - that my review hasn't shown up. I know I wrote one. This was a fun book with sassy characters. I really enjoyed it. The only thing that disturbed me was the frequent mention of sex. I thought that was unnecessary considering that the author develops her characters so well. I think with her quality of writing she could have shown sexual tension without being so blatant. Still, I would recommend this book because it was clever and fun.
A very fun love story!
As I was reading Ms. Rodarte's book, I was thinking that this could be a next step in the evolution of romance novels. What happens beyond "chick lit" and "Sex and the City" and "Fifty Shades?" Perhaps it is time to see both men and women struggling openly and honestly on a level playing field, with all their vulnerabilities and paranoia, to find true romance. Ms. Rodarte's writing offers the possibility of men and women courting each other while humorously tripping all over themselves! ;)
romances aren't my thing at the moment, so give me a while and that three stars could turn to four. it's a well-written story and fun to read. so if you're into the genre, you should enjoy it. )
Steve and Justine both started out with attitudes that true love didn't exist. Then fate happened and they connected after meeting the night before on a flight back to their home town. Butterfly feelings emerged for both but something happens where Steve sabotaged himself personally with Justine. The author does a nice job with the storyline and keeps me rooting for Steve and Justine to work out.
Steve Campbell, CEO of a hot cyber tech firm, has been leading a heavy one-night stand dating life since the divorce from his wife whom he caught cheating on him in their home. Justine Langlois, a currently popular romance author, has committed herself to a relationship-free life, priding herself on her hair-flip method of rejecting dating advances. However, when they wind up meeting at an out-of-town hotel hosting a romance writers’ event, there is a spark between them during the initial advance and reject interaction that begins to grow when they find themselves sitting next to each other on a cross-country flight back to their hometown of Phoenix. Can they get past their noncommittal barriers to find a true connection? The author has followed the basic recipe of a straightforward light dessert romance in this little novella, which should be quite pleasing to fans seeking a quickie fix. Yet, relationship interaction is lightly told, making it seem based more on physical, rather than emotional factors. This tale is basically the level of reader comfort food.
